This morning we learned that the Department of Education (DOE) contacted EGCC as part of their program review and informed them to immediately cease enrollment of new students under the Free College Benefit.

While this action is directed at EGCC, SRC is taking a conservative approach and will cease enrolling students with all partners (EGCC, CSU, and PQC) to comply with this directive.

At this time the DOE has not provided guidance on currently enrolled and enrolling students.

Additionally, SRC is taking the following actions to prevent further enrollments in the fall 2022 term:

  • Updating the Union microsites and marketing collateral:
    • “Free College is closed to enrollments for the fall 2022 semester. Information about future terms will be shared as soon as it is available.”
  • Updating our phone system in a phased approach as more information becomes available.
  • Sending update emails to enrolled and enrolling students as relevant information becomes available.

What Union partners should do:

  • Immediately cease promotional activities.
  • Update your promotional collateral and websites to inform members that fall enrollment is closed for new students
    • “Free College is closed to enrollments for the fall 2022 semester. Information about future terms will be shared as soon as it is available.”

We will provide more information as it becomes available, including what and when we will communicate with students.

We remain committed to an affordable college benefit, and we are working on reconfiguring the program that will be compelling to your members and their families.

Thank you,

Student Resource Center
