Accidental Death & Dismemberment

Insurance for PEF Members

Accidents happen all the time and can occur anywhere. You can’t always prevent them, but you can make sure you have the protection you need. The PEF Membership Benefits Program sponsors Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance from Sun Life. Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance provides extra financial protection if you suffer from a covered accidental injury or accidental death.

How it works

If you are an active, dues-paying PEF member you are automatically covered for $15,000 of AD&D insurance. You will receive a payment if you suffer a covered accidental injury or an accidental death.

Key features of AD&D

  • Provides a $15,000 benefit payable if your death occurs as a direct result of a covered accidental bodily injury sustained while insured, provided death occurs within 365 days of the accident.
  • Provides a benefit, if while insured, you suffer a bodily injury caused by a covered accidental injury and if, within 365 days after the accident, you lose a hand, foot, or eye as a direct result of the injury.
  • If a covered accident results in your death, your beneficiary will receive 100% of your AD&D coverage amount.
  • Receive up to a maximum of 100% of your AD&D coverage amount for losses resulting from one accident.
  • Use the benefit to pay for injury-related expenses or to help replace lost income.

Disappearance feature of AD&D

Disappearance presumes that a covered person is dead if the covered person disappears as a result of an accidental wrecking, sinking, or disappearance of a conveyance in which the covered person was known to be a passenger and if the body isn’t found within 365 days after the date of the conveyance’s disappearance.

Plan ahead to protect what you love if a serious accident puts at risk what matters most to you.
